Thanks to the generous support of our members, the Essex Egyptology Group has an annual grants programme offering funds to a range of Egyptological causes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are an egyptological organisation and are interested in discussing the possibilities of a future grant, please use the contact form on the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2025<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This year we are supporting the following projects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Tell Nabasha Survey Project which is directed by Dr Nicky Nielsen (University of Manchester).<\/strong> The project investigates the archaeological remains of the ancient site of Imet in the Northeastern Nile Delta and our funding will help to buy&nbsp; hand-tools, carrying baskets, trowels and similar for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The publication of <strong>Professor Lloyd Llewellyn Jones\u2019 new book on the royal harem in Egypt and the Near East<\/strong>. &nbsp; We will be contributing towards the creation of the maps in the book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The tomb of Thutmose IV (KV43) Research Project directed by Dr Nicholas Brown from UCLA.<\/strong>&nbsp; The grant will contribute towards hiring&nbsp; an Egyptian epigrapher to help document the worker\u2019s marks throughout the tomb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The team from &nbsp;Instituto de Estudios del Antiguo Egipto (Madrid)<\/strong> who are working at the tomb of the Vizier Amen-Hotep Huy in the south Asasif. &nbsp; Our grant will contribute to the restoration of the columns and reliefs in the tomb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>2024<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are very happy to be able to support five projects this year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Abydos Temple Paper Archive Project (Nora Shalaby)<\/strong> is working on the historical<br>archive, discovered in 2012 in the Seti I temple at Abydos, containing documents from the<br>Egyptian Antiquities&#8217; Service related to the heritage management of the site of Abydos and<br>surrounding areas, from approximately 1850 through the 1960\u2019s. The money will be used to purchase conservation materials and to add to funds which will be used to purchase a scanner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Palermo Stone Project (Massimiliano Nuzzolo)<\/strong> which is examining the stone and its<br>fragments by means of the most up-to date technologies of 3D photographic documentation<br>and reproduction. The money will be used for travel to examine the stone in Palermo or to examine one of its fragments in the Petrie Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>University of Warsaw (Wojtek Ejsmond) <\/strong>There is a proposal to continue the survey of the<br>Northern Necropolis and piles of alluvium mixed with artefacts in the northern part of<br>Gebelein which may yield more knowledge about the settlements of Per-Hathor and<br>Sumenu. The money will be used buy field equipment for sifting and to hire workmen to help explore<br>the piles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Karnak Great Hypostyle Project at the University of Memphis (Peter J Brand)<\/strong><br>which records and studies the texts and relief carvings of the hall. The money will be used to support a graduate student when they travel to Karnak to work on the project in the spring of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Narmer Palette project at UCL&nbsp;(Dr Kathryn Piquette)<\/strong> which, like the Palermo Stone<br>Project to which Dr Piquette has also contributed, is using the most up to date photographic<br>technologies. The money will be used for the study of tool that are contemporary with the palette and for<br>consultation with colleagues experienced in copper, flint, and chert replica tool making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>2023<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2023 we were delighted to support the following organisations and projects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>South Asasif Project<\/strong><br>To support the restoration of a ceiling in TT223 \u2013 the tomb of Karakahamun<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Amarna Trust<\/strong><br>Supporting the development of a site preservation plan which might include the preservation of the North Dig House or a project to record the current condition of Amarna houses in the Central City which were excavated in the early 1900s. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Theban Tomb 16 Project<\/strong><br>To support Suzanne Onstine and the University of Memphis team in the cleaning and preservation of the plaster walls and paint<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Egypt Exploration Society<\/strong><br>To help with the conservation work carried out on their collections<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kom el-Hettan&nbsp;<\/strong><br>To help with the continuation of Dr. Hourig Sourouzian\u2019s work at the mortuary temple of Amenhotep III<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size\"><strong>Enquire about future grants<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are an egyptological organisation and are interested in discussing the possibilities of a future grant, please use the contact form on the website. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of our core aims is to offer support to assist in excavations connected with and research in ancient Egyptian studies.
