This study day will examine the various forms of mummification practiced throughout the ancient Egyptian world. Focusing on their own research over the last 30 years, Stephen and Jo will discuss the true beginnings of mummification, the techniques and materials employed; the extent to which such practices spread across the ancient world, and their mummification of a human body donor in association with the Home Office and British Medical Association.<\/p>\n
Professor Joann Fletcher of the University of York\u2019s Department of Archaeology is co-founder of the university\u2019s Mummy Research Group and leads the Egypt Exploration Society’s Local Ambassador programme. She is about to publish her tenth book and has made numerous television appearances, most recently as writer\/presenter of BBC2\u2019s \u2018Immortal Egypt with Joann Fletcher\u2019.<\/p>\n
Doctor Stephen Buckley is an archaeological chemist and Research Fellow at the universities of Tuebingen and York and a founder member of York\u2019s Mummy Research Group. Gaining his PhD on the subject of ancient Egyptian mummification, he has studied mummified remains around the world and was lead scientist on the BAFTA-winning \u2018Mummifying Alan: Egypt\u2019s Last Secret\u2019.<\/p>\n
